Family Medical Practice

Family medical practitioners and paediatricians take care of the health of patient family members of Šeškinė Polyclinic.

A family medical practitioner (paediatrician) is the first point of contact for a variety of ailments.

Family medical practitioner in the Šeškinė Polyclinic advise adults and children on the following:

  • establish a primary diagnosis,
  • prescribe treatment and necessary examinations,
  • provide references for consultations with specialist medical practitioners,
  • perform preventive health checks before entering a kindergarten, school or university,
  • care for the prevention and prophylaxis of diseases in patients.

In addition, family practitioners monitor hearing, vision and blood pressure; for injuries within their competence, they can perform primary surgical wound repair, bind wounds and remove sutures; and perform physiological pregnancy care as required by their medical standard.

The paediatricians of Šeškinė Polyclinic consult only children and adolescents under the age of 18:

  • diagnose diseases, prescribe treatment and perform necessary examinations,
  • monitor the growth and development of children,
  • refer for counselling with specialist medical practitioners,
  • perform preventive health checks before entering a kindergarten, school or university,
  • care for disease prevention, prophylaxis and immunoprophylaxis (vaccinations),
  • visit newborns and children with severe disabilities and special needs at home;
  • advise on the issues of healthy eating and physical activity.

You also have to address your family practitioner or paediatrician for a referral to the Invalidity and Work Disability Determination Office under the Ministry of Health or other services and commissions.
