Outpatient Nursing Services at Home

Nursing Practitioners at Šeškinės Polyclinic provide free home health care to the patients of the polyclinic with special needs in identified permanent nursing (SPS-1), special needs in permanent care (SPP-2), and other patients unable to independently access the personal health care establishment to receive services. We strive to improve the quality of life of patients and their relatives, to preserve patients' independence in their home environment, and promote their self-care.
Services in patients' homes are provided by community or general care nurses or mental health nurses in partnership and teamwork with other personal health professionals, social workers, and specialists of other fields.

The following home care services are provided free of charge:
1. Procedures under the guidance of a physician:

  • Injection (intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous, or dermal) and drip infusion;
  • diagnostic procedures: blood, urine, sputum collection for testing in the laboratory, recording of an electrocardiogram (ECG), measurement of intraocular pressure;
  • Bladder catheterization, catheter removal and maintenance;
  • bowel cleansing enema;
  • removal of sutures;
  • maintenance of drains and artificial openings (stomas);
  • insertion and maintenance of probes;
  • care of ulcers, sores and other wounds;
  • mucus suction.


2. Independently provided nursing services:

  • administration of medication use;
  • measurement of arterial blood pressure, and body temperature;
  • pulse, respiratory rate calculation;
  • training for bedsore prevention;
  • enteral nutrition;
  • personal hygiene services;
  • nursing, healthy lifestyle, disease and complication counselling.
